This year I promised myself I wouldn’t procrastinate anymore. Done!:))
I sat down at my laptop, gathered the GPS routes I had from the books I bought from Carpathian 2 Wheels Guide + TET (Trans Euro Trail). After analyzing them and combining (in plotaroute.com) what I liked best, I said: this is the tour!
Almost 800 km round trip, on a route dominated (over 65%) by off-road roads, from Sibiu to Orșova.
Why this route?
Because it combines everything I look for in a motorcycle adventure: isolated roads, rugged sections that keep your attention, breathtaking landscapes, and that feeling of freedom that only a motorcycle can give you.
The route is over 65% offroad, so if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of cities, this is exactly what you need.
Technical and relaxation portions
The tour is not a “runaway” one. I want us to keep a relaxed pace, but also enjoy small doses of adrenaline. For example, a part of the famous Strategica — that ridge road that connects the Olt Valley to Latorita — is quite rugged, with boulders and ditches formed by torrents. It’s not extreme, but not for beginners without off-road experience.
We will make stops for photo breaks, refueling (including for the stomach 😄), but also moments of peace, far from civilization. If the weather allows us, we will sleep in a tent, in equipped areas. If not, we will find a simple, unpretentious cabin, but with hot water and a cold beer.
The maximum altitude on the route rises to approximately 2000 meters, so even in summer you will feel the coolness of the mountains. The Lotrișor Waterfall and other picturesque areas are easily accessible from the road, so we will improvise depending on time and mood.
The return trip will be a bit shorter, so we can get back in one day.
