2026 EDITION CANCELED

For personal reasons, I have to cancel this year’s trip to the Danube. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, especially since I know some of you were looking forward to this trip. I’ll see you next year, with even more enthusiasm for the road.CANCELED

Sibiu–Orșova Moto Route: what you need to know

  • August 27 – 30, 2026
  • ~500km (+60% offRoad)
  • ~2000 m
  • Guesthouse / Hotel

The Sibiu–Orșova Moto Route is a 500km adventure with over 60% offroad, taking you from the heart of Sibiu all the way to the Danube — through lightly-travelled roads, alpine ridges, dense forests and spectacular gorges. It’s the kind of tour that gets your boots dirty and clears your head.

We’ll pass through spectacular sections of the Carpathians — including two segments that are part of the Romaniacs route — breathtaking scenery and technical sections that keep the adrenaline dialed in. The pace is relaxed but steady — enough time for photo stops, refuels, stories and quiet moments in nature. We’ll climb above 2000m altitude, cross forgotten military roads, and ride past lakes, waterfalls and dams.

From the previous tour

Itinerary: Sibiu–Orșova Moto Route

The settling-in day. We leave Sibiu in the morning through Rășinari and climb towards Vârful Prejba – the first wide panoramic view over Oltenia de sub munte. From there we continue on ridge roads and forest tracks, pass through the resort of Voineasa, follow Drumul Strategica and descend towards Novaci with a few sections that’ll wake you up if you were dozing off. The day isn’t long, but it’s enough to remind you why you came.
Accommodation: Novaci

The long day. We leave early and climb Transvulcan, push along the ridge towards Pasul Vâlcan and descend to Câmpul lui Neag on roads that barely appear on maps. We continue to Crucea Eroilor de la Siglău, then drop through the day’s technical sections towards Cerna. By evening we roll into Orșova with the Danube on the horizon — exactly as it should be.
Accommodation: Orșova.

Day off the bike. Coffee on the Danube waterfront, a boat trip on the river, and a ride up to Porțile de Fier I. If there’s any energy left, a spin through Drobeta-Turnu Severin – a city with more history than it looks.
Accommodation: Orșova.

Heading home. The return route is shorter and more accessible, because Day 2 took everything we had and there’s no point being heroes on the way back too. We arrive in Sibiu with dirty boots, a broken back and a grin on our faces. Classic recipe.

What you need to know about the Sibiu–Orșova moto tour

The route is approximately 500km, of which over 60% is offroad — dirt roads, gravel, forest tracks, sections with rocks or technical climbs. It's not an extreme tour, but it does require a minimum of experience on mixed terrain and a suitable motorcycle: dualsport, soft enduro or adventure light.

We stay at locally-owned guesthouses, chosen for comfort and atmosphere. Quiet, welcoming places close to nature — but with a warm bed and a good meal at the end of the day.

Full protective gear, a prepped motorcycle and basic tools are essential. If it rains, the trail can get challenging — your tires matter more than you'd think.

What I love most about this route is that we ride my favourite road — Strategica. If you want to scout it beforehand or study the route, you can find the full map on Wikiloc.

The tour runs primarily in Romanian, but we speak English too — no one gets left behind.

What to pack for the adventure:

  • Full protective gear.

  • Dualsport / enduro / adventure light motorcycle

  • Tires with a proper off-road profile

  • Basic tool kit and spare tube

  • Water and food for at least one day

  • Power bank and headlamp for the night

  • First aid kit + emergency spray (optional)

  • Testimonials

It was my first trip that long, and my longest on an ATV. I really felt it when I almost ran out of gas, but I was lucky to meet some great people in Voineasa and near the Sadului River dam. The route was beautiful but challenging. I really enjoyed the climb up Strategica, with its rougher road and spectacular scenery. The return trip on Transalpina was, as usual, a pleasure. If I were to change anything, I’d add a night’s stay by the lake—a campfire and a beer would have been perfect. Mihai was an excellent guide and showed us all the places worth seeing. Thanks!

Awesome experience. The scenery was amazing. Mihai is a top-notch guide 🙏 Thanks for the tour.

The ride is amazing, the scenery is breathtaking—it’s a must-do for all adventure bike owners. With the right tires and a little skill :) The most challenging part was the descent into Maces Valley—well, challenging for my skill level, anyway :)

    Adelin V.

I really loved it when we reached the wind turbines above Orșova—the view of the Danube from the lookout point was absolutely breathtaking! The tough part for me was the climb from Petrimanu to Curmătura Oltețului; I found it quite challenging—those loose rocks really put your patience to the test. Luckily, we took a little break when we ran into the flock of sheep. 😂

    Rider

Speed on gravel roads, spectacular views from the ridges, forests of all kinds, rocky sections that push you out of your comfort zone, and narrow asphalt roads just 2–3 meters wide. The best part was discovering roads and landscapes I would never have found otherwise.
